Presentation of Nant

This year we will organize our autumn weekend in the Aveyron. Nant is at the edge of the Cevennes mountains, where they meet the high, arid plateaus of the Causses. The mediaeval town lies on the River Dourbie, a raging torrent that, from its source near Mont Aigoual, has cut the Dourbie Gorge to the east, and the Dourbie Canyon to the north on its way towards the Tarn at Millau. This time we won’t be riding as far as Mont Aigoual, an area that we explored at our Camprieu week in 2011, but there will be a few cols to satisfy our end-of-season needs. Within a 40km radius, besides the Dourbie and Mt. Aigoual, there are several tourist sites to satisfy our curiosity, such as the Tarn Gorge, Millau and its Viaduct, Saint-Affrique, Roquefort, and the Chaos of Montpellier-le-Vieux…

We’ll be staying at the Village Soleil Evasion, Domaine du Roc Nantais, a centre run by Cap France, who have agreed to stay open after the school holidays to accommodate us. To get to Nant by car, take the A75, exit La Cavalerie, 15 km away. By train, there is Millau, 35 km away, and by TGV, Montpellier, 90 km distant. As usual, we will hold our General Assembly on the Saturday afternoon, to take stock of the year’s finances and activities.

Here are three sites that tell us more about Nant and its region :

The bike rides

Saturday and Monday morning bike rides will be organised for road bikes and mountain bikes. They all are quite easy and appropriate for all members. The MTB rides have been tested. If the cols are few in number, the landscapes will satisfy the most demanding of cycletourists. Descriptions of the routes, and GPS tracks, will be made available on our website in the autumn.

Road bike routes

R1 : “Dourbie et Trézevel”, 54 km et 800 m up will lead you to col de La Pierre Plantée and col de Rhodes.

R2 : with 62 km and 900 m up, you will visit the Causses of Campestre and of Larzac and you will pass 3 cols.

MTB routes

V1 : you will start from the hotel, and, along 26 km et 800 m up, you will discover 3 cols between the  Dourbie river and the Causse.

V2 : after a 18 km drive by car, you will ride to “source du Burle”! And you will pass 3 cols along 23 km and 650 m up.

For a better understanding of all the unexpected by the organizers.

Trombinoscope, something new :

When we come together at our Holiday Weeks (and other gatherings), we see many friends and acquaintances without always being certain of their names, and we may be shy of asking them. To rectify this, as announced at the AG at Bedoin last year, we are going to present each participant with a ‘trombinoscope’ showing the faces, names and membership numbers of those who have sent us these details and authorised their use in the trombinoscope on the Club website. You can send a digital photo of your face only as a jpg file of good definition and quality, with an aspect ratio of ¾, with your name and membership number, to , or directly to  who will send it on. Please tick the box ‘yes’ or ‘no’ on the booking form to indicate your agreement or not. If neither is ticked, a negative response will be assumed. If you send a photograph on paper with your booking form, it will only be used for the trombinoscope at the autumn Weekend.
